This is the process of me creating my film poster for my film trailer. I wanted to create a silhouette effect and used Photoshop to help me do so.

Research
The adverts for Black Swan were created by the British design studio LaBoca and are influenced by Polish and Czech posters of the 60s and 70s, as well as ballet advertisements of the early 20th century.
The stylised, circular body of the swan functions as a keyhole peeking into a theatre, where the dancer performs in front of a starry backdrop, the stage or lake under her feet casually suggested by incomplete horizontal lines.
Olly Moss is one of the biggest names in modern movie poster design. He is an English graphic artist, best known for his reimagining of movie posters. His work is regularly featured in Empire.
His posters vary in artistic style but his eye for detail and originality remains consistent in all his work.
This poster for 1981 cult horror film The Evil Dead is a fine example of his talent and is reminiscent of the work of Saul Bass.

Planning of my Film Poster
This is a tester of me learning how to construct the image for my front cover. I used Photoshop to create this. I wanted to be able to create a silhouette effect and add an imagine in the background.

Production Logo
Above, is a practice attempt of my group and I creating our Production Logo. We used Photoshop to construct our logo together. Our Production Logo is made up of each members first name initials and stands for "SKream ProDuctions." We decided to position the letters in the shape of a camera and have an outline around it to make the camera shape more clear.

Sketch for my Film Poster
For my Film Poster I took inspiration from the Looper film poster. I want the title of my film to be placed at the top of the poster so that it can be one of the first things that my audience notices, this means I will have to make it eye catching. Using a bright colour and bold font to make it stand out. I want to use a head short but in a silhouette form of the 2 girls (Only the outline of their heads) facing in the opposite direction, with the mother inside the silhouette. I want the mother to be in a postion that shows that she is upset about something, which will make the audience question what exactly could the film be about. This will attract my target audience, making them want to view the film.
Film Poster Inspiration
The Film Posters I have chosen all have in common a silhouettes theme and I think that this theme will represent my Supernatural genre best.

Location Shots
One of our locations for our Trailer will be an Orphanage, where the sisters "live" (They died in a fire at the Orphanage when they were young. Their souls still linger around.) We want our Orphanage to look quite retro/ Vintage to show that it has been around for a while but we also want it to look welcoming as it needs to be appealing to our couple, so that they want to go inside and take a look.
Another Location will be the Church, where the couple will go and visit a Priest to tell them about the strange incidents they have been experiencing in their home. We went for a traditional looking Church with a graveyard next to it, as it has a more creepier feel to it and this matches our genre best - Supernatural Horror.
Majority of the locations in our Trailer will be filmed in a house. Location 1) Kitchen Scene - where the mother stands by the sink cleaning up and looks outside the window only to see the 2 girls playing in her backyard. And in the next shot they have mysteriously disappeared. Location 2) The Dinning Room Scene - The mother setting up the table for dinner for her and her husband but also lays out 2 extra plates for the girls. Her husband comes home and is confused about her strange behaviour. 3) The Bathroom scene/Dream scene - The husband goes to take a shower where he is met by the 2 girls, they kill him and leave him dead in the bath. 4) Bedroom Scene -The mother wakes up from a bad dream and turns over to see the 2 girls standing by her bedside and screams.

Costumes Research: for each character
Orphans – 2 Sisters
The Orphans are 2 abandon sisters that live in an Orphanage
which was set on fire a long time ago. The Orphanage was re-built soon after though
their souls still wonder around the place.
We want our Orphans to have burned marks and scares on
different parts of their body in certain scenes to show that they are turning
evil – making them look more gruesome.
I researched ways to make quick and easy burns to use on our
Orphans and found:
The products needed are:
v A packet
of Gelatine
v Mascara
v Red
lipstick
v An
eyeshadow colour pallet
v Ice lolly
sticks
v Water
This will be good as the products used to make this burn can
be found in any Supermarket e.g. Asda, Tesco, Wilkinsons etc.
Or If we
want more detailed, horrifying, gruesome wounds then this website would be good
to use in order to create them.
For the
Scares on their body I found a great video that shows how to create quick and
easy scares using equipment that again can be found in Supermarkets or Drug
stores e.g. Boots and Superdrug.
The Rigid
Collodion Scarring Liquid can be found on Amazon for £3.44 or Ebay for £5.99
Costumes:
An
orphanage is a residential institution devoted to the care of orphans –
children whose biological parents are deceased or otherwise unable or unwilling
to care for them.
We want
our Orphans to wear long, old fashion gowns/dresses in the colour white which
will symbolise them being innocent, pure and sweet. Also, to have their hair in
2 braids with white bows in their hair – This will contrast with their
personalities when they turn evil. We want their clothing to look quite dirty
to show they have been worn out. – Having loose thread and tears in them once
they turn evil.
Priest:
For our
Supernatural Horror Trailer we have decided to add a Priest as in Horror films
it is known to have some type of holy spiritual person such as a Priest.
We want
our Priest to wear a typical, religious gown and to have a Rosary and a small Bible
in his hands at all times
Priest Costumes can be found on Ebay for £10.99
Mother/Father:
For
these characters, we want them to wear normal, contemporary clothing that will
be worn by a couple in their early 30’s. For example, the mother would wear
jeans and a blouse top and comfortable shoes and the father would wear Jeans, a
shirt and smart
shoes. We want them to wear clothing that is still in style and that will suit
their personalities.

Film Trailer Analysis
The Girl on the Train - Film Trailer
This movie
is about a Commuter named Rachel Watson who catches daily glimpses of a
seemingly perfect couple, Scott and Megan, from the window of her train. One
day, Watson witnesses something shocking unfold in the backyard of the
strangers' home. Rachel tells the authorities what she thinks she saw after
learning that Megan is now missing and feared dead. Unable to trust her own
memory, the troubled woman begins her own investigation, while police suspect
that Rachel may have crossed a dangerous line
The opening
scene in this trailer starts off with dialogue with one of the characters, she
only says a one-line sentence, without us knowing who she is addressing and not
giving away too much. From the beginning we learn that this character is quite
promiscuous as the trailer shows her in many sexual scenes. The trailer then
shows an Establishing shot of one of the character’s house letting the audience
know where the action is being set so already the audience gets a sense of the
characters surrounding making us think the film may be based around a family. The
main characters are introduced at the beginning of the trailer and we get a
sense of what roles they play, who they are and how they relate to the story
being told. This trailer uses Intertitles throughout in an effective way as it tells a brief story of what the film will be about/ what it will consist off. Alongside showing shots/scenes of the action taking place to match the intertitles. For example, one Intertitle says “At 4:36 PM” and other says “A woman disappeared” showing scenes of those particular moments in the film. The music being played at the beginning is quite subtle, it has a soft tempo feel to it as it plays in the background which sets the mood for the audience. The music matched the different scenes being shown in trailer at the beginning. Though towards the middle of the trailer the music starts to build up, building a climax which captivates the audiences interest making us want to know what's going to happen next. Towards the end the music is quite fast paced and a bit more upbeat, building a crescendo effect. The use of the montage effect in a non-linear order towards the end of the trailer is very effective as it draws the audience in. The shots/action are fast paced which emphasises the genre of the trailer – Thriller, it keeps the audience on their toes, ready for what information they might be given next or whether they will be left with a cliff-hanger.
The trailer
ends on a cliff hanger with one of the main characters being questioned by
someone the audience cannot see. "Why
are you here?" They ask her and see responds saying "Because I’m
afraid of myself" this automatically makes the audience think and question
what exactly is it that she could be afraid of. The shot used in this scene is
a close up shot, we can only see the character’s head - to her shoulders
meaning that the audience is unable to see her surroundings. This will make the
audience want to know where she is, what’s her reason for being there and who
is she talking to? The audience is cut off from everything else in this scene
which indicates that our full attention should be on her.
At the
ending of the trailer the music stops suddenly to hear the dialogue from the
main character clearly suggesting that this could be an important scene in the
film. The sounds of the characters surrounding are then amplified, they have
used naturalistic sounds e.g. the sound of the trains passing and the sound of
birds flying in the sky. This allows the audience to step into the world of
that character’s reality. The music then continues and goes back to the same
tempo that it started off with in the beginning. Which again sets the
atmosphere for audience. The production company of the film is displayed right at the beginning before we can see any action. This film was produced by Universal and DreamWorks. The Directors name and a quote about the film - “Based on the Thriller that shocked the world” is also displayed in the trailer. This is good because it shows the audience who has produced the film and if they have liked previous movies that have been produced by that company house or director before then it is most likely that they will be interested in this movie also.
The transitions used to jump to one scene to another were effective in this trailer. They were either straight cuts or blackouts, they helped build up the tension and suspense in the trailer. The movements/gestures of the characters did the same also as they were quite subtle to start off with e.g. the woman rocking the baby back and forth in her arms but then as the trailer progresses the movements got bigger, along with the sound. E.g. the woman running and the scene where the man pulls the hair of a lady from behind.
"That's the perverse thing about publicity; we'd all prefer the audience going in knowing nothing at all. but in order to hook them, you have to tell them something".
- Emma Donoghue
This quote tells me that in order to captivate the audiences attention, without giving away too much you must give them a glimpse of what they are about to see. You have to give them something to look forward too in order for them to be interested or want to know more about that particular thing. The audience want something that makes them feel a certain way, something that moves them or something that they are able connect/relate with. Once you have their attention it's in the creator's control to decide where they want to take the audience. The idea of hooking the audience should be one that is done in a creative and way.

CAST ROLES
The directors role is the person that organises meetings to plan for shoots with the cast/actors, and insures that we keep on track with the trailer. keeps the trailer focused on the genre with music and editing. Sophie is very reliable in helping construct our trailer together which is an important trait as a director.
Producer: Delilah
The role of the producer consists of being organised and has good time management skills. Also being determined to ensure that all work is done on time and in the correct order. Noting down any ideas of the trailer and checking that all plans are correct. I also have the role of being the Vlogger, who captures all the behind the scenes footage of our trailer process. I also plan and coordinate various aspects of our trailer such as selecting scripts, directing and probing our actors.
Editor: Princess
The editor places a vital role in constructing our trailer together and making it professional. She has the amazing ability to organise the clips together, with transitions and after shots which will make it look visually appealing and look natural that will fit with our genre conventions. She will also be in charge of the Music production, inserting specific sounds and music that will suit our genre.
Director of Photography: Kimberly
Visualises the trailer from an artistic perspective. Works with all the cast in capturing the right moments that will insure our plot runs smoothly. She is also in charge of Mise-en-scene and iconography to help emphasise the genre. She suggests good locations for the cast to film and organises costumes and props needed. She was also in charge of any After Effects that needed to be included into our trailer such as effects and the Intertitles.
